How we work

Consultancy at every stage of the journey

Whether you’re starting out or untangling a setup that’s grown unwieldy, the principles are the same.

STATE local-first

Your home runs without the cloud

We lean on Home Assistant, Proxmox and a box in your house, so the lights still work when the internet doesn’t — and nobody else holds the keys.

STATE vendor-neutral

No brand lock-in

Get the right hub in place and you can mix and match on compatibility. We recommend what fits the job, not what we’re tied to selling.

STATE privacy-first

Security built in, not bolted on

UniFi networks and OPNsense firewalls, designed so your smart home is private and segmented from day one — not patched up later.

Services

What we do

Smart Home @ Home

WHENyou're setting up at homeTHENwe recommend, install & automate

From a first smart plug to a whole-house Home Assistant setup: recommendations, installation and troubleshooting. Plugs and bulbs, power monitoring, heating, automations, security, voice assistants — the whole range, matched to what you actually want out of it.

Smart Home @ Work

WHENyour business has a tricky problemTHENsmart automation solves it

Smart tech isn't just for homes. We've fitted hospitality and retail with smart lighting for setting the mood, integrated music, smart plugs for hard-to-reach spots, and full point-of-sale systems. We've designed office systems too, including meeting-room management. The right automation gives a small business a real edge.

Networking

STATEa stable networkISthe foundation for everything else

A solid network is the key to any smart-home deployment. We favour UniFi for switches and Wi-Fi and OPNsense for firewalls. With a mini PC or VM running Proxmox you can host Home Assistant, your firewall and your network controller on one small box — 100% local. For smaller setups, a Raspberry Pi 4 with an SSD runs Home Assistant happily.

Hardware & Software Advice

WHENyou're choosing kitTHENhub first, then mix & match

We're not tied to one brand. Get the right hub in place — Alexa or Home Assistant — and you can mix and match on compatibility from there. We suggest a cheap dedicated Android tablet (the Nokia T10 is a current favourite) to keep all the apps off your phone and run a wall dashboard, plus physical buttons like Aqara and Flic for people who'd rather not reach for an app.

What clients say

Thanks to SSH my holiday home is now smart — I can monitor the cameras, turn on the heating and control the lights, locally and remotely.
James A.Cromer, Norfolk
I wanted to keep an eye on an elderly relative without invading their privacy. SSH suggested a kettle companion that alerts me if the kettle hasn't been switched on by a certain time.
Libby J.Norwich
Everyone said smart tech wasn't suitable for my small restaurant. SSH proved them wrong — smart lighting for the right atmosphere, integrated music, smart plugs for awkward spots and a new point-of-sale system.
EdwardNorwich
I'd already started my smart-home journey and wanted more automation across different makers. Rather than start again, Michael set up Home Assistant on a Raspberry Pi and showed me how Node-RED worked. Over the moon with the result.
